A court chaplain and librarian to Count Esterhazy, Father Primitivus Niemecz gained lasting fame as a manufacturer of musical automata. Joseph Haydn composed music specifically for this instrument, originally built into a magnificent piece of furniture with a clock on top, which released the music on the hour. The barrel contains twelve tunes, including this fugue. |
